Coats’ police chief is recovering in the hospital after he got into an altercation with a suspect during a chase. The police chief was knocked out in a tussle at the Oakdale Mobile Home Park off of Highway 27 late Tuesday evening. Officers on routine patrol had setup a license checkpoint when a man took off and started a chase. Police say an altercation started and the chief was knocked out, but they aren’t sure how. Chief Jaggers was taken to WakeMed and is expected to be okay. The suspect ran off, but was later caught by police just after 9 p.m. Authorities have not released any other details about the incident at this time.
