Around the 500 block of South Person Street, many buildings still show shingles ripped from the roof, chimneys knocked apart, blue tarpaulin stretched across the damage. Raleigh’s tornado tore through here in April, and among the broken buildings in its wake, it left Gethsemane Seventh-Day Adventist Church – a neighborhood landmark dating to 1920.The white concrete-block church owns a pair of distinctions: It’s one of the first black SDA churches in North Carolina, and it’s built in an offbeat, stucco style with smaller rocks hand-pressed onto each block.

According to the Christian Post, New Destiny Christian Center, revealed on Friday one of the requirements needed for applicants looking to take over the senior pastoral role the charismatic preacher left vacant when he died in August.

Minister Samuel Anderson, an executive administrator of the church, told The Christian Post Friday that NDCC is seeking “a pastor that is part of a husband and wife team,” that would be committed to each other as they commit to the message and growth of the Apopka, Fla., megachurch.

NDCC was the vision of Pastors Zachery and Riva Tims, after hard work and great dedication, built a ministry that would eventually grow to a membership of 7,500 in just ten years.

The Tims, who share four children, divorced in 2009.

Since the death of  Pastor Zachery Tims, many members of the church have called for Riva Tims return to take up the mantle of leadership and become pastor of the megachurch.

In the duet “Faithful” with gospel music artist Karen Clark-Sheard, Aretha takes it back to church.

Her newest album “Aretha A Woman Falling Out Of Love”, according to a press release, will be available exclusively at Walmart on May 3rd and available on iTunes and Amazon June 3. The album, is the very first on the legendary artist’s own label, Aretha’s Records, and contains 12 cuts including a bonus track.

Some members of a small church in Texas says their Pastor denied them communion because they refused to give over their tax returns.  Would you give all your tax return to your church if it needed it?

The Pastor, John Goodman, says he did so because the church members wouldn’t support the church financially – like giving toward the new parking lot.  He said only a few members donated and called the rest devils.

Obviously, religion provides something  more  important than a sense of community. But isn’t social affiliation a part of it? Isn’t a sense of community part of the institutional strength of our places of faith? The real question is  the broader digital world providing something our places of faith once did – a center of social networking? Is that a problem? And if so, what do we do about it? How do we reach the disconnected.

There have been many  issues  discussed about the life of the church. We wrote a story not long ago here: Black Churches Unite To Become More Relevant In Their Communities

In the beginning of history religion had the monopoly in offering a sense of community, where people gathered to hear stories of the prophets and God, of evil and good as that was an affordable communal entertainment in those days.

Fast forward to 21st century; Religion gets relegated to the weekend activity and as Richard Beck argues in “How Facebook Killed the Church,” religion further loses its traditional share in capturing the congregants to an alternate source of satisfaction; the facebook. There is an element in all of us that seeks freedom through alternatives. Questions about Religion that people were afraid to ask, and expression of dissension cannot be easier than at facebook, indeed no one will be called on the carpet. It is also increasing one’s ability to interact with each other and a new language of refinement is emerging and new communities are forming based on shared interests.

The truth of the fact is that Facebook allows for real evangelization that we as  faith believers  often negelct or forget about. I think that is the real hot topic of 2011. How do we use this tool that has swept the nation and redefined our borders, physically and spiritually. W hat do you think?

In this life we have choices and going to Church, in my opinion, is a choice. No one should be ridiculed or tormented if they see the need not to attend church regularly or if ever.

Another choice one has is the option of making a tithe. I am a tither because I see the benefit of giving to others. I do not give tithes to any religious organization though, better yet I give to those I see that are in need of a helping hand. As often as I see fit I give 10% of my earnings to a person or a family that is in need.

The aforementioned is from a YouTube video with a voice over of Creflo Dollar explaining how he would handle non-tithers that entered his church. Point blank, he would shoot them and then commence to doing his sermon.

Now, he says he would only do this if he weren’t covered in the blood of Jesus, so we’re guessing that’s a good thing. He goes on to say that you CAN NOT receive prosperity, blessings or deliverance unless you tithe.
