Jazz music’s Marsalis family, including trumpeter Wynton and saxophonist Branford, are among the recipients of a 2011 Jazz Masters Award by the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Marsalis family also includes patriarch Ellis, a pianist and educator, and his other two sons: trombonist Delfeayo, and percussionist Jason.
It’s the first time in the program’s 29-year history that the NEA is presenting a group award.
