TMZ was the first to report the singer’s death.The Grammy-winning singer had numerous hits in both the 1970s and 1980s, including “Last Dance,” “She Works Hard for the Money” and “Bad Girls.” Summer won five Grammy Awards and six American Music Awards, and charted three multi-platinum albums. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, and four grandchildren.

Donnell Battie says Wal-Mart was negligent, careless and reckless and showed deliberate indifference by failing to properly control access to the P.A. system, reports MSNBC.

Battie’s lawsuit was first filed in Camden County Superior Court in March. It was moved this week to U.S. District Court in Camden, the New Jersey Law Journal reported Tuesday. The lawsuit stems from a March 14, 2010, incident at a Wal-Mart in the community of Turnersville in Washington Township, N.J. Shortly before 5 p.m., someone commandeered the store’s public address system and announced: “Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.”

A store manager quickly went on the intercom system and apologized for the remark, and police were summoned, according to media reports at the time. A 16-year-old was later arrested on harassment and bias intimidation charges.
Battie says he was in the store and contends the announcement led to depression, anxiety, anger, loss of sleep and appetite, paranoia, anti-social tendencies and loss of enjoyment in activities. Battie’s attorney, John Klamo, says Battie had already been getting professional help for previous traumatic incidents.

“Mr. Battie is an individual who has been under care of a doctor for various disabilities dealing with his psychological makeup,” Klamo told the Law Journal. He’s in Wal-Mart and something of this nature presents its ugly head and it brings up past situations in his life that affected him.”

The official report, prepared by the medical examiner in Volusia County, Fla., also found that the 17-year-old had one other fresh injury – a small abrasion, no more than a quarter-inch in size – on his left ring finger below the knuckle.
Separately, a medical report on Martin’s alleged killer, 28-year-old George Zimmerman, prepared by his personal physician the day after Martin’s shooting in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26, found that the Neighborhood Watch volunteer suffered a likely broken nose, swelling, two black eyes and cuts to the scalp.

Both documents are part of a mountain of evidence – up to 300 pages and 67 CDs of witness statements, surveillance videos and other material– expected to be made public soon in connection with the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman.

Zimmerman allegedly shot Martin during a confrontation inside the gated community in Sanford where Zimmerman was a neighborhood volunteer and where Martin was visiting his father’s fiancée. After first reporting a suspicious person in the neighborhood in a phone call to Sanford police, Zimmerman followed the teenager before a fatal confrontation that remains shrouded in mystery.

When police arrived at the scene to find Martin dead on the sidewalk, Zimmerman claimed he shot the teen in self-defense. Zimmerman was treated at the scene for cuts and a bloody nose, then questioned by police for hours before being released without being arrested. Authorities said at the time that they had no evidence challenging Zimmerman’s account and that his conduct appeared to be justified under Florida’s so-called Stand Your Ground law.

Just days after facing the ire of his baby mamas on “Dr. Phil,” the former NFL star is now in jeopardy of losing his Miami beach condo — one of the last homes he still owns after being forced to sell off several others.
According to TMZ, Owens allegedly owes over $1 million on the property, and now, the bank wants to foreclose.
Deutsche National Bank sued him in April, claiming he still owes $1.47 million on the property and hasn’t made a payment in 6 months.

According to mortgage documents attached to the lawsuit, Owens originally took out a loan worth $1.55 million in 2006, and had faithfully been making monthly payments of $5,126 until last November. Terrell has responded to the lawsuit, claiming the bank “lacks standing” to foreclose on the property — and he refuses to admit there’s an outstanding balance problem, reports TMZ

People are driving the extra mile to get gas 25 or 30 cents cheaper in Louisburg. 

The strip on U.S. Highway 401 or Bickett Blvd. in Louisburg has gas as low as $3.39 a gallon – cheaper than the $3.69 that you will find along Capital Blvd.

Drivers said they started noticing the prices drop around mid-April when a Sheetz opened along the stretch.

Popular Detroit pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans was assaulted and carjacked Wednesday afternoon at a gas station on the city’s west side.

The attack happened about 3:20 p.m., and the suspects fled with an unknown amount of cash and Winans’ SUV, police said.

Winans, 54, told WXYZ-TV that four or five young men followed him from inside the gas station and attacked him while he gassed up his vehicle.

Winans said he didn’t believe he was seriously hurt, but planned to seek medical attention.

He said his attackers appeared to be among 10 young men he passed by inside the station, and he warily watched them as he pumped gas.

“I’m just saddened that it has come to this,” Winans said. “This kind of nonsense just has to stop. It’s just the savageness of what’s happening in the street.”

He also believes his attackers didn’t recognize him. Winans is pastor of the 4,500-member Perfecting Church on Detroit’s east side. In February, he gave singer Whitney Houston’s eulogy.

“And if they did, it didn’t make much difference,” said Winans, who has been active in civic issues, including taking a stand against the proliferation of strip clubs in Detroit’s neighborhoods.

The disgraced NFL star is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence in Nevada following his 2008 conviction for masterminding a heist on two sports memorabilia dealers’ at a Las Vegas hotel. The 64-year-old, who is serving nine to 33 years behind bars, previously lost an appeal against his conviction, but he now has a new lawyer, Patricia Palm, who filed paperwork on Tuesday at Clark County District Court in Las Vegas claiming O.J.’s case was mishandled by his previous legal team and he deserves another day in court.

Yesterday Edwards defense team told the judge that there were only 3 possible witnesses left that they may call to the stand.  Those are Edwards daughter, Cate, his former mistress, Rielle Hunter and Edwards himself.

Edwards has pleaded not guilty to six criminal counts including conspiracy to violate the Federal Election Campaign Act by accepting contributions that exceed limits and filing false campaign- finance statements.

Elon university professor and former federal prosecutor Steve Friendland states that “He’s got a huge mountain to overcome.”

Grisham visited the Raleigh elementary school, where his daughter Shea Grisham teaches, to speak to students about his newest children’s book, Theodore Boone: The Accused. During the session, the author also answered students’ questions about his work.
