GOD, LOVE & ROMANCE offers urban praise and worship as only Fred Hammond can, complemented by is an impressive opus into matters of the heart, from a Christian perspective. The 19-track, 2-disc set was inspired by Hammond’s life and by simply observing the world around him. “It’s been on my heart for about four years, and I was encouraged by my good friends Pastor Mike & Dee Dee Freeman (Spirit of Faith Christian Center, Temple Hills, MD) to finally do it,” Hammond says of his decision to record a collection of love songs. “A lot of times as men with Christian beliefs we don’t talk about the things that are really important to us in love relationships. I believe God uses not only my triumphs but He uses my tribulations, turmoil, and trials to help other people go through what they are going through.”

James “Jazzy” Jordan, EVP Verity Gospel Music Group says: “Fred brought this project to us with a strong conviction that it was something he needed and wanted to do. He is very passionate about using his music, and his experience, to help mend relationships and help to correct the high divorce rate in the black church. “I knew I had to do this record. I knew it was time for me to share my heart about love. I knew that the body of Christ needed to hear these songs, but I honestly didn’t know how it would be received. I always say that I’m a ‘step out of the boat’ kind of artist, and I am grateful for everyone who has stepped out with me to support this CD. It is humbling and it is heartwarming and it is a reminder that when God gives you something – to move on it, even if you don’t fully understand what He is doing,” says Fred Hammond of the high chart debut.

GOD, LOVE & ROMANCE was produced by Fred Hammond. The CD’s first single, “I Feel Good” is Top-10 at Gospel radio. Hammond’s first nationally televised performance of the single airs this Saturday, February 11, at 7 p.m. on The Stellar Awards’ national broadcast on Gospel Music Channel.

In April 2011, the band released Take The High Road in Australia and followed it with a headlining tour that included the East and West Coast Blues-fest and the Sydney Opera House. The CD, which was also released in the U.S. on May 3, features guest artists Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, Hank Williams, Jr., The Oak Ridge Boys, and Nashville heavyweight Jamey Johnson, who also co-produced the record.

The Blind Boys of Alabama are a gospel group from Alabama that first formed at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind at Talladega, Alabama in 1939. The three main vocalists of the group and their drummer/percussionist are all blind.

No stranger to work  she embraces a full schedule. Our friends at Essence had a  chance to ask her some interesting questions.

You spend so much of your time working on television; do you ever miss the movie set?
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I miss it a lot; which is why I’m so appreciative when I book a part. It’s hard being in New York when they cast out of LA, and I can’t just fly out there when I have to work. I love the entire process of being on the set and being able to create a character. It’s so much fun. In “Think Like a Man,” I have a very small part. They told me it wasn’t a big budget, but I don’t care about any of that.  I’ll do it for free simply because I love being on the set with other creative people.

Landing the role of Lula in “One for the Money” has been one of your dreams. What about this character drew you to her?
SHEPHERD: I read the book over seven years ago and I loved it! I always thought if they ever make this into a movie, I want the role of Lula. What I loved about her is that she has depth to her. Janet Evanovich writes about women who are strong. This is a woman who starts off as a hooker but through subsequent books she becomes a bounty hunter. One of my fans tweeted me that they were casting for Lula. I was at “The View” and after the show  I ran into wardrobe got a mini-skirt, an electric blue tube top, 5 1/2 inch heels, one of my long wigs and I ran across town to this audition. An electric blue tube top and me don’t go together, but I wore the heck out of it. I told the casting director that I know and love this character. It’s hard to describe how I felt when I got the call that I booked it. It’s a thrill and an honor.

Lula is one of the most loved and popular character in the series. Do you feel a lot of pressure to deliver a Lula that die-hard fans will fall in love with?
SHEPHERD: I will feel pressure up until the movie comes out. [Lula] is a favorite of the fans. There are blogs devoted to who the fans think should play the main characters. I hope people can see the love that I gave to this role.

Damita has proclaimed 2012 a year of great things for the body of Christ and plans to creatively express her love for God in many ways this year. The buzz surrounding Damita is that she is aggressively completing her 2012 CD release on Tyscot Music & Entertainment. Her new music has been described as refreshing, anointed, dynamic and lyrically sound.

This week, Tyscot serviced the much-talked-about track “I Love You” to radio and it has quickly been added in rotation at several stations across the country. “I Love You” speaks of God’s endless love and Damita’s commitment to Him, no matter what life may bring. It won’t take long for radio listeners and Damita fans to catch on to the lyrics and melody.

In the song, she sings the heartfelt lyrics “When I need a shelter, I run to you, when I need help Lord, you bring me through and that’s why I love you”. “I Love You” is a great lead single for Damita’s much anticipated 2012 release.

For years, people have been running around with bracelets that say: “What would Jesus Do?”

Matthew 7:1, “Judge not, that you be not judged.” But beware; appearances can be deceiving. This famous saying of Jesus isn’t telling us not to judge. Here’s the rest of the passage:

For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

The problem isn’t judging; it’s failing to judge oneself by the same standard. Jesus calls us to examine ourselves and repent of our own sin before we approach someone who is in error or in sin. He tells us to take the speck out of our brother’s eye – in effect, to judge them after critically judging ourselves. In judging, rebuking, or confronting we must avoid being a wimp, a jerk, or a coward. Wimps sit quietly in the pews, shaking their heads and hoping sin and false teaching will go away by itself. They allow these to destroy lives, families, and churches without lifting a finger. Wimps are strong on love, but weak on justice. Jerks know they’re right and they’re proud of it. They don’t distinguish between real problems and minor disagreements and enjoy pointing out everyone else’s errors and moral failings. These folks are strong on justice, but weak on love. Cowards, unlike wimps, are willing to judge sin and false teaching but, unlike jerks, are unwilling to confront those at fault. They lack the courage to confront the problematic person or group and instead spread dissension and mistrust under the radar. The tragedy of the coward is they end up being just as poisonous as the very thing they oppose. He casts out teachers who prophesy falsely in His name yet gives mercy to the repentant tax collector. This is the way of Jesus. He is suffering servant and glorious king. He was not a wimp who just accepted everything, a jerk who looked down on others, or a coward who was afraid to confront.

Representatives for Mary Mary have just announced that Erica Campbell gave birth to a baby girl, Zaya Monique, Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Mother and daughter are resting comfortably.

Erica stated that she and husband, Warryn Campbell, are “feeling so thankful and so blessed to have our sweet Zaya finally make her grand entrance into the world! God is awesome, our family couldn’t be more happy than we are today!”

Zaya Monique was born at 6 lbs, 12 oz. Congrats Campbell fam!

The singer will take a few weeks to spend with her newborn before gearing up to promote Mary Mary’s new self titled WE tv reality series. The highly anticipated series premiers on Thursday, March 29th at 10pm ET/PT, then continues each week at 9pm ET/PT with ten, hour-long episodes.
