The State Board of Education has approved nine new charter schools in North Carolina.
Three of them are in the Triangle: Triangle Math and Science Academy in Wake County, Research Triangle High School in Durham County and the Howard and Lillian Lee Scholars Charter School in Orange County.
The schools are the first to be approved since the General Assembly lifted the 100-school cap on charter schools last year.
