A dispute between Durham County’s district attorney and a longtime judge played out in court Monday with the state hoping for the judge’s removal from as many as three criminal cases.

Judge Carl Fox made it clear to District Attorney Tracey Cline that asking to get a judge of Orlando Hudson’s stature removed from even one case is a big deal, and in order for her to do that she must prove that he is biased against the state.

One of the cases involves author Michael Peterson, who was convicted of killing his wife, Kathleen, in 2003. He is trying to get a new trial based on mistakes made by the SBI crime lab.
