This week brings a new  Gospel movie role for Fantasia and a new job for Matthew Knowles.

On Film

It will be the first feature-film lead role for the Grammy-nominated star of ‘The Color Purple. American Idol alum and erstwhile VH1 reality-show star Fantasia Barrino has added major film lead to her resume.  Here is Fantasia doing a Mahalia Jackson song.

The Season 3 winner is slated to appear in a feature-film adaptation of the 1993 book Got to Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel, which recounts the life of the late American gospel singer, a civil rights activist who was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She will portray Jackson on her journey from abject poverty in New Orleans to her rise as a global figure in gospel and early supporter of Martin Luther King, Jr. The singer died in 1972 at the age of 60. Matthew Knowles can Celebrate  Music World Gospel ranks in the Top 5 and 10 on nine of the eleven gospel music charts. Music World Gospel is #4 on the Hot Gospel Songs Imprints chart, #6 as the Hot Gospel Songs Label and #9 as the Top Gospel Album Label.

Houston’s contemporary break-through   artist and GMA Dove Award nominee Brian Courtney Wilson is Billboard’s #2 Hot Gospel Songs Artist and the #8 Top Gospel Album Artist. Wilson’s debut single “All I Need” is #4 on the Hot Gospel chart and #7 on the Gospel Albums chart. In addition, “All I Need” is #10 on the Gospel Digital Songs chart and “Just Love,” Wilson’s third single from his self-titled CD, is #33 on the Hot Gospel Songs chart.  Award-winning and acclaimed music producer Stan Jones (Just Love and Just Love Deluxe Edition) is Billboard’s #4 Hot Gospel Producer of 2010. Overall, Just Love is #30 on the Top Christian/Gospel Album charts. Earlier this week Mr. Knowles was appointed to the Gospel Music Association Board.
