I remember some years ago, graduating from college on Mother’s Day, and the tradition still remains for some local colleges. Here’s a  listing for this weekend. Commencemt ceremonies for some of our colleges begin this weekend.

Graduation dates, times

 East Carolina University: Friday, May 7, 2010 in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium

Peace College: May 8, Saturday, 10 a.m. on the College Green. Former North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Willis Whichard will deliver the commencement address.

Shaw University: May 8, Saturday, 11 a.m. at Dorton Arena’s Exposition Center.

St. Augustine’s: May 8, Saturday, 10 a.m. on the quadrangle, in the center of campus.

Meredith College: May 9, Sunday, 10 a.m. in the amphitheater. In the event of inclement weather, commencement will be held at the J.S. Dorton Arena on the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Alumna Gretchen Holt Witt, founder of the non-profit Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, will deliver the commencement address.

University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill: May 9, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. at Kenan Stadium.

North Carolina Central University: May 15, Saturday, 8 a.m. in the O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium on the NCCU campus.

North Carolina State University: May 15, Saturday, 9 a.m. at RBC Center.

Duke: May 16, Sunday, 10 a.m. at Wallace Wade Stadium.
